!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! when Genesis announced pricing for the much anticipated G70, so here’s the price and option break down.
There are a total of 5 different trim levels spread across 2 engine and 2 transmission options. For the sake of this breakdown, I’ll only build and price the base,, manual, and top trim. As stated before, the base G70 starts at $34,900. That gets you the model powered by the 2.0 turbocharged I4 252 horses paired to an 8 speed auto and a mpg rating of 22 city/30 highway. For the sake of the build, I choose the Sport package. Selecting that sees the price jump to $44,900. Not bad considering the features.
There are 8 exterior color choices. With this being Genesis, they are all luxuriously and extra named:
Santiago Silver
Himalayan Gray
Victoria Black
Casablanca White
Mallorca Blue
Adriatic Blue

Siberian Ice
I chose the nice Malorca Blue color that was previewed. Nicely, all are no cost options as well.
There are only 2 interior leather color choices, well one really. Its black. The only difference between the 2 choices is stitching color. You can have either gray or red. I chose red. Both are no cost options as well.
There are only 5 other options. Things like first aid kits, cargo trays, wheel locks etc. All in, a base G70 is $45,895. Not bad.
The next trim up is the $36,900 AWD model. After that is the $37,900 manual model. There are none of the available option packages for this model. It does comes with different standard features though. Performance features. Like Brembo brakes, full LED headlights, sport exhaust system. This trim also gets different interior leather colors: full on Black, or gray seats with Black stitching. All in, a manual G70 is $38,895. Remember, you cant get AWD or the twin turbo V6 with the manual.
The next trim after the manual is $43,475 twin turbo V6 rwd. The top trim is the V6 awd at $45,750. I built the rwd model. Standard features of this model are:Shift-by-Wire
Idle Stop & Go

I choose the Sport Package and Black seats with red stitching. All in, a rwd G70 is $50,495 with the Sport Package. Genesis is also doing us enthusiasts proper by at least letting us have the option of getting the Sport Package on the AWD model. AWD with the Sport Package is $51,500.
On every level, the G70 looks to put the Germans on notice. Its performance, pricing and features shows again that Genesis is willing to undercut the competition price and performance wise to try and be the best. Hopefully it works. And hopefully, either this or a G90 will be my next Hyundai product.

The configurator is online by the way-
https://www.genesis.com/us/en/build-your-genesis-select.html?sz=G70&yr=2019&zipcd=10001
My choice will be either the 3.3T AWD Standard- which is a great price for what you get already, or go all out with the Sport. I find the Elite and Prestige don’t really appeal to me for what you pay.
I’ll take one in Adriatic Blue, thank you very much.

Elite package: Too Much
Dynamic package: Way Too Much
P restige package: Astronomical
Sport package: Not in this solar system
Hyundai prices have really gotten out of control. I get they want to be ‘premium’ cars, but they aren’t quite there yet.

Wow that is definitely undercutting the Germans by a *lot*. Looks like they definitely learned Cadillac’s lesson with the disaster that was the ATS.
I would honestly probably skip the manual due to lack of features (I like sunroofs) and be very torn between a Sport package 2.0T or a Standard 3.3 R WD for the same price or a Standard 3.3 AWD for a couple grand more.

Also I love that the top package is “Sport” and not “Diamond” or “Executive” or “Luxury” or anything like that.

Yes. Should have mentioned that. Thanks for that. That’ s a nice ass color though. I’d take the standard base model. You cant beat the value and performance proposition either.
![]() 10/25/2018 at 19:47 |

They are there. But moreso the value is there. Compare the price of a similarly equipped and powered 3 series or C class and you’d be spending 20-30-40 grand more. Thats the bit.

Can I pay to have them take that tacky chrome boomerang off the side? And the fake printed grill pattern across the sensors on the bumper is terrible. So cheap looking.
Interior looks nice, though. Hopefully it feels the same.

They really did slap the Germans in the face pricing wise. You’d have to be a straight up badge whore to not see the value here.
I did find it weird that the manual model is not the base model. They seem to be pandering to the enthusiasts takers, of which there is going to probably be a few hundred and until this model is dropped probably in ‘21. The Sport 2.0 and the base 3.3 is a hard thing to choose between. But the lighter weight of the 2.0 will probably make it the better drivers car.

We already knew the manual wasn’t gonna be base, I’m just bummed it didn’t get more comfort features. T hey probably went through BMW forums and saw how everyone’s looking for a ‘slicktop’. What they didn’t realize is that everyone wants a slicktop M3 to take to the track, not a slicktop 328 to drive to work. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’d rather have six cylinders than a manual, and the F30 340i will probably be the last car in this segment to ever allow that.

Damn spot on. You’re right on every point. Whats more irking to me about it too is that not only did they not make it the base model, or even a base option, they de contented it compared to the other trims, and then charged more for it. Not realizing that the people that will go for this model are, like you said, looking for something with performance to drive to work.
Other than that though its still a solid deal compared to the competition . But the manual, while one of the few left, might be the weak spot in the lineup.

That’s not true. Base 3 series (320i) is the exact same price; premier is $41k which is cheaper than the Hyundai; which I actually didn’t realize the gap was gone and actually inverted now. Something severely wrong with that equation.
The M sport 330 with the executive tier is $53k which is vastly superior to the Hyundai but very similar cost again. Maybe I’m comparing the wrong lines... everything is so blended these days on what they’re trying to compete with.
Car prices in general are about $5-10k higher than they should be, but this Hyundai is over priced straight up.

I don't know if you missed it, or the US market is different, but in Canada they're offering another colour on the configurator: Nurburg Green. It's dark and looks like a good option.

While its true the base models are close in price, I’m sure that was on purpose to lure over buyers. A lot of the features the G70 has are either options on the 3 Series, or not even available. Like Apple Car Play. Standard on the G70, $300 option on the 3 Series.
And why is the 330 M sport vastly superior to the G70? Because its a BMW? Just by adding the 340i Sport design and premium tier, you’re already pushing $52 grand. And that’ s before sectioning specific options like leather colors and paint options. Wh y not get something that can do BMW, but for less? The value is there. We gotta stop letting badges blind us. I do agree with you that cars are overpriced, but again, the value proposition here is too hard to ignore.

We have that color here, but its only for one of the launch editions they are having. So its not on the configuration . They are only making 800 in this color in 2 different configurations :

It’s beyond the badge, the gear on the M is superior to the Hyundai. They interior, while handsome, is uglier then the 3 series but I assume that will be preference. The giant screen (3 series has one too) is fugly and worse than the 3.
I think people defending the hyundai pricing always resort to ‘badge’ envy to justify they hefty price; which is far from the case.

Not really. Especially when you speak to BMW service techs. Their quality and reliability have gone down vastly. I personally wouldnt ever touch a BMW, especially one out of warranty . Even my mom, who was a BMW faithful, is getting rid of her 640i due to the repairs.
The price isnt hefty for what they are offering. Its only hefty to someone thinking that because its Hyundai, it shouldn’t be costing as much.
![]() 10/26/2018 at 17:47 |

I wouldn’t want either at that price. BMW quality has been awful for decades.
It’s hefty for any car let alone a Hyundai. I’m not buying into the high prices but good on you for having the extra cash.
You have this weird obsession on that I’m a badge snob... clearly you’ve never seen my posts. I’m far far far from that. I look for value and this isn’t there.

Nah sorry if thats what you took it as. I dont know you like that to make that kind of assumption. Im was speaking in generalities .
